Accents: It's all about the little things!

Accent pieces placed in every room of the house are typically the least expensive items that add the most character to any given room. They are so important to use in expressing what you want each room to feel like. Below are a few accent pieces that have the power to transform a room. Remember to have fun! Here are a few ideas you can play with from our featured companies that we have at Vermont Mattress Depot.
Truly unique, Sheaf initially appears to be a gathered bundle of reeds, but its fanned top conceals a hidden light that gently illuminates the warm finish. The effect can be country or nautical, but always stands out. Kenroy Home.

Gambit’s pawn profile can be traditionally formal or comfortably casual. Available in two contrasting finishes, this bold but simple design statement brings its whimsical atmosphere to your perfect space. Kenroy Home.

Intertwined in its seamless link, Interchange weaves a delightful illusion with a handsome Bronze finish and dark accent molding. Kenroy Home.

Accent any room in your home with this beautiful accent bench. It features a transitional styling with off-white, hexagon patterned upholstery for visual depth and dimension. A cappuccino finished frame adds a pretty contrast to the fabric, and flared sides add a formal look and feel. Included are two lumbar pillows for added accent and comfort. Coaster Fine Furniture.

Mattress Shopping

Mattress shopping is not something people do everyday and there are a lot of questions people ask when looking for their new mattress. Here are some of the most common questions that we get here at Vermont Mattress Depot.

When should I consider purchasing a new mattress?
We recommend getting a new mattress every 8-10 years. The range depends on the quality of your previous mattress. This number can go up or down. Some mattresses are rated for 5 years and some are rated for 20. It is important to be familiar with your warranty package so you know what to expect out of your mattress and can contact them if there is a noticeable sag before the warranty time period is up.

What does a warranty cover?
With most manufacturers if there is an inch and a half sag your mattress is warranty-able. This means you can see an inch and a half dip in your mattress with the covers off. Most companies have the stipulation that the mattress needs to be properly supported and unstained. This is why we strongly recommend using a mattress protector.

What is a platform bed?
A platform bed is a bed frame that does not require a box foundation. It has in its place a series of slats that  are a few inches a part from each other that provide the same support as a box foundation. Queen and king size frames also require a center support to ensure your mattress and your body is getting optimal support. This center support runs vertically from the head to the foot of the bed and has legs that touch the floor.

Do I need a new box spring/box foundation when I purchase a new mattress?
This is an important question because this depends on the type of frame you are using. If you have a platform bed you do not need to buy a box foundation. If you have a traditional style frame and your box foundation is as old as your mattress you need a new one for a couple of reasons; the mattress company may only honor their warranty for a mattress if the box foundation is matching, and over time box foundations can become disjointed and unsupportive without showing defect.

Firm or Soft?
The general rule of thumb is the heavier you are the firmer the mattress and the lighter you are the softer the mattress. If the mattress is too firm for someone that is not heavy enough to sink into it, it isn't contouring around you for pressure relief. If you are a side sleeper it is advised to go with a little softer of a mattress, even if you are heavy, as it will help alleviate shoulder pressure.

Do I need to flip my mattress?
There are few mattresses made these days that are flip-able. You should rotate your mattress and move the head to the foot once very month for the first few months of receiving your new mattress. After those first few months you should rotate once every 3-6 months. This helps to evenly break in the new fibers of your mattress.

Why are you trying to sell me a mattress protector?
Mattress protectors are so important! If there is a stain on your mattress it can void your warranty. They keep your mattress from absorbing sweat and bacteria. They help with allergens and dust mites. These are great for use with children and pets. They are machine washable and fit just like a top fitted sheet without being crinkly or uncomfortable. Having a mattress protector means you can really rest assured you are taking care of your mattress. Getting a mattress wet jeopardizes the integrity of the foams and promote sagging. Our best sellers are from the Dri-tec and plush touch Sleep Guard mattress protectors.
